MDA - We Be Brushin' from Numan Films on Vimeo.
The Manitoba Dental Association has created a fun and catchy message to encourage school children to brush and floss daily. The song We Be Brushin’, written and recorded by Winnipeg radio personality and hip-hop rapper Ismaila Alfa, is aimed squarely at the kids of today, presented in a form they are used to seeing and hearing.
Created and produced during spring break 2013, the hip-hop video and television Public Service Announcement was shot on location in Winnipeg.
Set to a cool rap track and using a funky shooting style, original choreography, special effects and props, the MDA is hoping kids will tune in to the message and join the movement to a healthier mouth.
"We wanted to create a fun, interactive tool parents can use to get their kids excited about good dental habits,” said MDA Communications Committee Chair, Dr. Joel Antel.
The video features more than 30 children ranging in age from 5 – 15, as well as dancers from Magic N Motion and several Manitoba dentists.
“Brushing and flossing every morning and night are essential for healthy teeth and a healthy mouth. Establishing the right habits early sets the course for a lifetime of good dental health and positive dental experiences. Rather than lecture parents and expect that message to reach their kids, we wanted to create a hub for good facts that families will actually want to check out. The MDA website, ManitobaDentist.ca, is filled with great information on the importance of daily brushing and flossing," added Dr. Amarjit Rihal, MDA President.
This new video and PSA is intended to generate awareness and get the attention of young people with the message that taking care of your teeth can be fun, is important to look and feel great, and has long term health benefits
